The trip to an academy where we had a very useful workshop on mobile learning was very sucessful. In that workshop we were presented with realistic and very useful mobile learning training techniques including scanning, dropbox and many other techniques where the whole participants were seemingly impressed. This though has relatively some similiarities with the social media applications introduced by Irmeli.
Thursday 31 workshop by katri and marjya was maybe one of the most important workshops in the program where implementation of theories was performed practically. The main four theories we had before were presented again but we were asked to apply the elements of the theories in a teaching situation and how it can be performed. i think it was fantastic and great workshop so thanks marjya and katri.

Mobile learning is very in just now, and Omnia is one of the leading schools in that area. They have managed to buy mobile devices for their students thanks to a EU project they participate. In many other schools the first steps are taken using students' own mobile devices.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the big challenges is getting the school IT-department onboard! Managing lots of mobile devices is a demanding task because there still aren't same kind of systems for managing the devices centrally as there are for computers.
It's also important that the Apps are used with pedagogy in mind, not just because they are neat. You are right that many of the social media tools we have discussed are also available on mobile, and that is what really make them great. E.g. I read your blogs on my iPad with an app called Flipboard, very handy in a bus (my trip to work takes 1 hour by busses, so plenty of good time to read). I also use Dropbox daily on my iPad (e.g. Merja, Katri and I save our materials in Dropbox on our computer, and everything is easily accessible by iPad. I also use Diigo app a lot. Diigo is the service where you can collect and share bookmarks, I warmly recommend you should register it, I'm sure you would like it. As a researcher you might also be interested in Mendeley, which is also available on mobile devices.
Great to hear that you appreciated the workshop today! Merja already told me about the wrap up exercise during one of the breaks, and her opinion was that the group was doing great work.

Thanks for your nice comments - you all were actively involved in the process of competence demonstration and the presentations on learning theories and their role on pedagogical practice were really interesting!
